Blantyre-based giants Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers yesterday qualified for the final of the Luso TV Sports Bonanza at the expense of Lilongwe teams.

The matches were played at Civo Stadium in the capital city.

Bullets’ veteran striker Heston Munthali’s 42nd goal made the difference as it propelled his side to the final.

Diverson Mlozi flicked a Henry Kabichi cross which found well-positioned Munthali. The latter slotted the ball into an empty net after Silver goalkeeper Charles Swini had moved from his line.

The goal sent the red side of the Civo Stadium into frenzy.

Despite Bullets scoring, it was Silver Strikers who started on a bright note with their admirable passing game.

They dominated the first 15 minutes, but gradually, Bullets recovered with Chimango Kaira and Mlozi and Kabichi controlling the midfield.

The second half saw Bullets maintaining dominance. Mlozi could have doubled the lead in the 67th minute, but to the surprise of the overflowing crowd, he shot wide.

Kayira messed up another golden chance in the 73rd minute after being put through in the box by Kabichi. Kayira failed to compose himself and again shot wide of the goal.

Bullets coach Eddington Ng’onamo expressed joy at revenging the 3-1 loss they suffered at the hands of Silver Strikers in a TNM Super League match last week.

But Silver caretaker coach Stain Chirwa blamed his boys for losing concentration in the second half.

Mighty Wanderers were the first team to make it into the final after a 3-0 win over Epac FC in an early kick-off.

The match had to be decided through penalty shootouts after a goalless 90 minutes.

Victor Mpinganjira, Cuthbert Sineta and Mike Kaziputa converted for the Nomads while Kondwani Lufeyo shot wide.

All Epac players failed to convert their penalties with Pirilani Zonda shooting wide while Stain Malata and Jelesi Lufeyo’s strikes were saved by an impressive Bester Phiri in goal for Wanderers

Wanderers could have easily won the game in regulation time had they made use of three clear chances they created.

The match today will see the winner pocketing K1 million courtesy of Luso TV.
